More and more homeowners are looking to make their homes more… well… homey, by adding quirky elements of character. Fashionable websites like Pinterest and Instagram are full of character homes, and global property news service, Property Wire, found that homeowners in the UK are willing to pay above and beyond for character properties.
However, if you can’t afford to go out and buy yourself a character property, there are plenty of ways to make your existing property look more like a character home.
Add reclaimed wood
Wood’s not just for burning on stoves you know! Adding touches of reclaimed wood to areas of your home is a great way to make your property look and feel rustic, and it doesn’t have to be a DIY nightmare either. Using a product like Stikwood is a fab alternative, and can save you a lot of time and energy, rather than simply using scrap wood (although you can get creative with that, too!).
Add a Log Burner
There are few things more characteristic than a roaring log fire, and here at ELB, we have a wide selection that are perfect for keeping you warm on these cold winter evenings. They look absolutely fantastic too, especially when added alongside some of the other ideas on this post.
Use vintage furniture
Nothing speaks character like some vintage furniture pieces – they don’t have to cost the earth either. Sparing some time to shop around online and on the high street often unveils some great deals on vintage furniture, so your living room can be transformed from drab to fab.
Paint your cabinets
If you think you have to rip out your entire kitchen to add some character to your home, think again! Painting the front of your cabinets will give your home a real 1950s feel, and will brighten up the place too! More and more first time buyers are choosing to do this to their cabinets, as they find the generic modern look of new builds bland and soulless.
Brighten it up with a vintage rug
We think bright, vintage rugs look awesome in any property. Team this with polished hardwood floors and you’re good to go. The brighter the better, so don’t be afraid to experiment with some colour!
If you’re interested in giving your home some character by adding a log burning stove, take a look at our selection. Have a question? Stoves are our bread and butter, so we’d be delighted to assist you with your query, so give us a call!
