Interior Design Ideas for Woodburning Stoves

Every room needs a focal point, and for a lot of houses in the UK, the fireplace acts as the centrepiece of a room. No matter what style your house is – contemporary, traditional, small or spacious, there is always a woodburning stove that will really add to the room.

Woodburners don’t just focus your attention, they also give a warmth to a room and soon make the space the heart of the home. Use them to warm up, to dry clothes and to add a certain ambience to the area.

But how do you set off your newly installed woodburner? We walk through a few interior design tips that might help you make some important decisions on the look of your room.

Rustic

This look works best with basic installations and simple fire surrounds. Colour is king here, with pops of coloured timber and tiles lending to a feeling of eclectivity. These work really well with old, small burners in cottages and smaller houses.

The rustic feel is complemented by lots of trinkets, decorations and accessories. The whole impression should be cosy.

Modern

For large homes with a more contemporary feel, an all-glass wood burning stove gives a clean and modern look. Glass stoves don’t require that much cleaning. However, if damp wood is burned, it will leave a dark carbon trace on the inside of the glass, so make sure all your wood is given ample enough time to dry out.

Family Home

For a standard family home, you need your wood burner to be well stocked and easy to use and clean. The cast iron black burners are perfect for busy households – they are easy to clean and a doddle to operate. An amount of wood should be stored nearby – we really love the trend of neat wood and kindling stacking in the side alcove to the fireplace. It gives a home a cosy, “hygge” feel which looks very inviting in winter.

Period Homes

For detached and semi-detached homes built in the 19th and early 20th centuries, a more elegant, minimalist wood burner is more fitting. These types of houses boast grand fireplaces, so pale colours, uncluttered surrounds and traditional wood burner accessories are the only things that should be employed.

Scandi-chic

We love Scandinavian style – it’s cosy but tidy, minimalist but warm. The key characteristics of a Scandi feel is a muted palette – think greys and whites – furs, floorboards and plenty of light. We love exposed free standing wood burning stoves – these are just planted in the room and have no requirement for a surround. Installing a wood burner in this way gives a real Nordic cabin feel – and with the right props can look Instagram-tastic.
