There’s no doubt about the fact that gas fires offer a reliable and economical way to heat your home, however there’s no doubt that if used incorrectly accidents can happen.

It’s worth keeping up to date with your fires service and maintenance plans. If you currently don’t have a service plan then you can ring around and find a Gas Safe registered engineer who can service your fireplace for you. It’s very important that you work with an engineer that is on the Gas Safe register. That way you’ll know that all the work that is being carried out is to a high standard and more importantly it’s safe.

Talking about safe, you need to make sure that you have a carbon monoxide detector in your home. It’s very similar to a smoke detector in which it will alarm when it detects something. Carbon monoxide is something that goes with having a gas fire but if it appears in high levels it can actually be very dangerous, hence the need for the detector.
